Social movement learning and knowledge production in the struggle for peace with social justice: a case study from southwest Colombia

Mar 13, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm UTC+0

How do social movements learn through their struggles for social change? What type of knowledge do they produced?  In situations of conflict, repression and widespread human rights violations such as in southwest Colombia, how to social movements harness  learning and knowledge in order to sustain, reproduce and strengthen their struggles? And how should academia relate to these processes and movements? Drawing upon an ESRC-funded research project collaboration with social movements in Colombia, Turkey, Nepal and South Africa, this seminar will reflect upon these questions by presenting some initial findings from a case study on social movements in southwest Colombia, and will reflect  upon two years which Patrick Kane spent in the field as an activist-researcher.
